Before
The new property owner wanted to increase the curb appeal of this multi-family complex.
After
The Solution
This flat front yard was contoured to hold as much rainwater on site as possible in order to create a lush entry for these desert dwellers.
Scupper downspouts now outlet into basin planting areas. And we cut the curb to allow street runoff to flow into the curbside basin that is planted with native bunchgrasses and an ironwood tree.
This is the first steel-lined curbside basin in Tucson. Using steal, rather than rock, maximized the water-holding capacity of the basin and gave it a clean, modern aesthetic.
Design Elements
- water harvesting earthworks
- steel-edged curbside basin with curb cut
- raised steel planters
- native + near-native plants
- mulched paths
