rain garden

The owners wanted to add some curb appeal to their mid-town home that would create a sense of unity between the mid-century modern interior and the landscape. Corten steel edging was used to delineate the planters and gravel patio adjacent to the house. The rain garden at the perimeter of the yard breaks from the clean, hard lines to create a more natural feel for the native plant buffer. The yard was graded so that water is directed from gutter downspouts into a series of interconnected basins, where it helps support the new plants.

Design elements included the following:

  • water harvesting earthworks
  • native + near-native plants
  • stabilized gravel patio
  • steel cacti planters
