Landscape Design Process
1.
Hourly Site Consultation
Nate or Iylea will meet with you in your yard to discuss goals for your urban habitat restoration project. We will assess your site for water harvesting opportunities that can help you take advantage of Tucson Water Rebates (up to $3000). We prepare a base map ahead of time with roof runoff calculations; we bring a copy for you to keep. During the site visit we encourage you to take notes. We can often give rough estimates for common project elements as a follow-up to the consultation. In addition to reviewing our digital portfolios, we can provide references and locations of some of our completed project sites you can visit and get a feel for our work.
From here, we can either move forward with an installation or with more detailed design on paper.

Design Options
If you like the design ideas discussed at the site visit, we can proceed with a computer-drafted plan that will qualify you for Tucson Water rebates, serve as a communication tool between us, and provide us with enough information about project scope to write you a detailed installation estimate. We have three standard plans to choose from, or we can tailor the design process and plans based on your particular needs. Call us for custom pricing.
Rain Harvesting Project Plan
This is a great option if you would like to implement a smaller project or do a phased install of a larger project AND take advantage of the Tucson Water rainwater rebate. It includes the following information for one watershed area (roof area or direct fall area):
- roof runoff calculation
- cistern sizing and placement
- rain basin layout and capacity calculations
- popup location
$225 in addition to initial consultation fee
Water Harvesting Layout Plan
This is a great starting point for people who want to see the whole picture from the start and who might want to do some of the installation themselves. It includes the following information:
- roof runoff calculations
- cistern sizing and placement
- rain basin layout and capacity calculations
- popup locations
- greywater opportunities
- planting areas - location, size, shape
- ground plane material suggestions
$750 in addition to initial consultation fee
Livable Landcscape Plan
With the addition of a second design sheet that shows a full planting plan, this option may be just what you need for a DIY yard transformation:
- roof runoff calculations
- cistern sizing and placement
- rain basin layout and capacity calculations
- popup locations
- greywater opportunities
- planting areas - location, size, shape
- ground plane material suggestions
- pathways
- placement and rough size of other outdoor living/habitat elements
- full planting plan
$1500 in addition to initial consultation fee

Design and Review
After drafting your plan, we email it to you in PDF format for you to review. Once you've reviewed the plan, we schedule a time to discuss via phone. Livable Landscape Plan design fee includes one round of plan revisions. We will also discuss your current budget and decide on priorities for phase one of installation.
4.
Estimate
Based on budget and priorities discussed in our design review meeting, we create an estimate for installation.
If there are elements of the plan that we do not install in-house, we can provide referrals to other contractors. You can either coordinate directly with them or you can hire us for construction coordination.
In the event that our current install timeline does not align with your timeline, we may not write you an estimate. Instead we would refer you to one of the other practitioners in town who we know have similar expertise in water resource management, habitat restoration, and outdoor living space creation.
